New Producer Hiring – Do Not Fall in Love

Puppy love is an intense but shallow attachment, which blinds one to what’s real. It’s a relationship that moves through different levels alarmingly fast.

No self-respecting agency owner would ever admit to being blinded to what’s real when considering a new producer.

However, when a new producer doesn’t work out, seldom does anyone reflect on “What went wrong?” and “How do we prevent it next time?

Too often, it’s falling in love with what you think and hope this candidate will bring to the table, which is a lot of new accounts and significant revenue.

Somehow, someone fell for their story, their ambition, and their drive. But, after that producer got hired, ‘what’s real' showed up, and they didn’t perform.

Ultimately, there was a break-up.

Bottom line, if you don’t have an interview process to determine what’s real, not what you hope is real, you’re bound to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
