05 Oct New Producer- Ring The Bell
When you sell something you should ring the bell and celebrate… but that's not what I'm suggesting here.
How many times have you hired a new producer, believing they would do what it takes to make prospecting calls, set appointments and sell something – only to be disappointed with their minimal activity?
Well, there is a lesson to be learned from the Navy Seals.
Let me ask you this question; if you could determine if someone had the grit, the mental toughness to be a Seal by using a personality profile, don't you think they would be doing it that way?
The reality is you can't determine if someone is mentally tough, determined and gritty by using a profile. The Navy believes you have to make them crawl on their bellies for a 1,000 yards, then lay on the beach as the cold waters of the pacific roll across their body. And, if you can do that along with another 5 months of torturous work, without ringing the “I Quit” bell, you can become a Navy Seal.
So here is the lesson in this for those of you hiring new producers. If you don't have some pretty tough exercises your “new producer candidates” have to do before they get hired to verify they have grit, mental toughness and determination, there is a really good chance you'll hire someone that whines, complains and hides out. There is a greater than 60% chance you'll fire them or they will quit within a year.
